I bought a Samsung Galaxy S2 a couple of months ago that has an 8mp camera and 1080p HD video, with a 1 gig of ram and frankly I love it to bits. The best thing about it is how easy it is to modify the navigation so I essentially have 3 docks as opposed to the one home screen (and I'm not stuck with the clunky home button but I have a home, a back and an edit button). Also loving the mini usb which means I can easily transfer files between my macbook, our mac tower and pc's at work when I have to go to work and I don't have to worry about fiddling with settings because of synching issues with multiple libraries and across two platforms.
I was one of the many along with a bunch of other friends who have been holding out for the upgrade for most of this year since my contract expired. The thing that did it for me was that I could barely even make phone calls and send text messages - as you also struggle to do (although having said that I am impressed that you figured out how to open beer bottles with your iphone). I had the opportunity to try out the Sony Xperia for a fortnight and after realising how much more you can do with an android and how much better the battery life is, I was sold.
@Dittmar The thing I was looking for in this upgrade had I held on to my iphone aside from just being able to function without constantly crashing, was improved battery life and a better camera. A mini usb would have been amazing as I haven't bothered to buy another ipod since I got my iphone and I use it to store music files and I'm constantly losing flashdrives. To be honest had I not tried the Sony Xperia and the Samsung Galaxy, I wouldn't have known any better and would have been happy with the latest model.
The thing that most annoys me is that for years I was just happy to not even think about it but after realising how much more there is out there after test driving other phones I feel like I wasted months hanging out for an improvement that was already available - just not being provided by Apple.
Also - unrelated but still with regards to Apple; I'm really saddened to hear of Jobs' death. He was a visionary and changed an industry. Thoughts go out to his family.

@Scarlett and @Dittmar I hadn't realised how much of a piece of crap my iphone was until this week. I have a 3 while husband has a 4 and this past week I was lent an android and I'm a convert.
In terms of battery life alone, the android only needs to be charged at the end of the day and this is after an entire day of using social media, music apps and camera apps. As most of us with an iphone know - the battery only lasts a few hours after using a few apps and making a few phone calls.
Funnily, when I started looking at all the other phones on the market, I realised that I had never even considered the possibility of buying anything other than an iphone; and for what?
Admittedly, the greatest appeal of the iphone for me is the apps and being able to carry my massive music library around with me. But when you actually start looking, all those options are available on most other phones anyway AND they're actually better and cheaper on some other phones anyway.
My iphone has made me realise how much of a mindless zombie so many of us are with apple products. I've been using a mac since my uni days (late 90's) and for the most part, I've always gone for the next sexier hardware upgrade as opposed to really investigating what was on the market and comparing them with my needs.
Admittedly, when I worked as a network administrator and ran a network of 350 PC computers, working with PC's was a nightmare and the handful of us who used macs, would smugly prance around with our macbooks as the entire network was repeatedly rendered useless by yet another virus.
However after this macbook dies on me (my 5th apple laptop), I'm probably going to spend a little bit more time looking into what is out there before mindlessly buying another sexy mac.

Myself and Lulu Ruttley are opening up a small studio space on Oxford Street in Sydney. It's in the old Gowings building, beautiful old heritage interiors.
Currently we're looking for the right person to come in and share with us. It only accommodates 4, so drop me a line if you're interested as I'm sure they'll fill soon: social@danieldittmar.net
We're moving in over the weekend so it's going to be brand new, available from the 30th of April and runs for $115 a week incl. bills/internet and a cosy product photo space.

::But also don't just apply to places that are advertised, you should be contacting studios directly saying you are looking for work, as most of the time studios won't even advertise they'll have a list of people who sent their work through and just contact them rather than advertising
