work history
Posted 11.04.2012 @ 1.00PM
I've been in a similar position. The company I worked for went bust right after I left, but there was good work produced beforehand. I always list it as my work from that period is what really matters anyway.
I would think twice about the 'bad debts' place though. People may judge you unfairly for being associated with this. I worked at a place with a boss that I could only use words that are not suitable on AIF to describe of how he treated his staff, had to remove it off my CV as his reputation preceded him elsewhere.

Any advice for those who have just started working in a design studio?
Posted 30.03.2012 @ 11.31AM
When I first started in design I wound up at a studio that was so quiet the pin dropping would sound like a car crash. Very unsettling for someone who doesn't think before he talks. Took me a LONG time to get used to it all, but after years of being in many studios I always find the best method is not to be shy and just be yourself. So long as you are getting your work done, feel free to strike up a conversation about anything you want. Everyone wants to be a good work environment and its often the people that you work with that is the most significant building block to this.

Pricing Posts

I charge a mid range hourly rate that sits between for the higher amount that I should be charging when doing something complex vs the lower rate I should charge for something that requires not much thinking.
I find breaking up the hours required for each pay bracket difficult to manage as sometimes things just take longer or shorter than what was quoted. I definitely make my client aware of the skills involved in each stage of the project, but this also stems from justifying the importance of what I do.
I'm happy with how this works out and so are my clients, so I guess its working fine.

Is Social Media Keeping Us Prisoner
Posted 02.03.2012 @ 11.35AM (Edited 02.03.2012 @ 11.37AM)
If snooping occurs and results in a relationship falling apart, then the relationship was in a really bad place to start with. Facebook may have just speeded up the inevitable. I'm friends with my bosses on my page - I dont really use it that much anyway, but if I was to get tagged in an embarrassing photo i'd probably have a laugh with them. So far though I have not had to worry about ANY content that is posted up about me. I don't really care that may see a photo that someone else posts of me a little tipsy, because I know I wouldn't be doing anything to bad in it anyway.
So you are responsible for what goes on your social site and how much it interacts with and reflects your real life.
