New branding for the National Gallery of Australia

I don't understand not having any horizontals on the A's? seems like they just added it for aesthetic kicks.
I'm not so moved by the use of shapes for the logo, seems a bit weak. But in saying this i haven't read the rationale behind it (should i have to though?).

Helvetica has become so overused that it has lost its distinction - Says 18 year old
Posted 12.08.2011 @ 3.36PM
Helvetica is a well constructed typeface no doubt, but has been overused and I know most of my friends in graphic design try to stay away from it. There are endless solutions in design and sometimes it's nice to try new things. I see Helvetica as not being as neutral as people say it is. All in all I've seen some great work with it in use (obviously), but I think the times they are a changin'. Change is good! And don't be such an ageist.
