How did you get started within the graphic design industry?
Posted 28.02.2012 @ 12.57PM
Hi Jordan. I'm reasonably new at doing graphic design commercially - doing freelance, and still on a major part of the learning curve.
Whether you're going to do freelance or work for a company, it would prob be helpful to have some experience. Pick up whatever design jobs you can get for friends and others, get some experience dealing with clients. Don't expect to be paid much for these jobs, but it's good to charge a small price just to get used to the financial side of it as well.
If you want to work for a company first then work on building a good portfolio.
This is just stuff that's been helpful to me

How to reconcile differences in aesthetic taste or quality of design?
Posted 28.02.2012 @ 8.45AM
I once read a quote that said something like, "an award winning designer pleases his own tastes, a good designer pleases his employer/client, but a great designer pleases the target audience." Can't remember the exact words, but I think that's what a graphic designer is there for - of course you want to please the client and your own tastes, but really it's all about making a design that really works for the purpose it's there for.
The way I see it, a graphic designer is an artist, but not all artists could be a graphic designer.

Where would you work in the mean time?
Posted 24.02.2012 @ 8.31PM
Probably true, scotty. I have a lot of fun dreaming about building a farm and calculating the costs it would take to do it. In actual fact, it's probably more enjoyable dreaming about it than it would be to do it! Just as well I'm not rich enough to be a farmer... yet.

what car would you buy for $9K and under?
Posted 04.05.2012 @ 12.30PM (Edited 04.05.2012 @ 12.31PM)
I have a 97 vw golf, great car. Got it on ebay for $1,176 and 11 cents, nothing wrong with it. You can truly get awesome car bargains on ebay, as long as you know what you want, ask lots of questions etc, and are willing to go pick it up maybe from another state. After having this vw I would go vw forever more. I want one of those VW Generations or something similar... not sure how much they are, but you would easy pick one up somewhere for under 9k.
