What is Coworking?

Coworking is an emerging trend that’s sweeping the globe as a new way to work for independent workers.

It provides a place to work for people who typically work alone, such as freelancers, contractors, creatives and business start-ups.

CO-WORKA in Dee Why run by brother and sister team of Andrew and Alys McAuley is Sydney’s first coworking space.

How does it work?

Co-working spaces vary, but they generally charge a fee and workers receive desk space and other amenities such as wi-fi internet and use of meeting rooms.

However, there is so much more to using a coworking space than simply the facilities provided.

The benefits of coworking include having a place to focus on your work without distractions, being able to network, swap ideas and resources, enjoy social interactions and having no long term lease commitments.

What facilities do you provide?

CO-WORKA provides large modern desks, high-speed Wi-Fi internet, printing, scanning and photocopying facilities, lockable storage and use of kitchen and meeting room facilities.

We also have private offices, meeting rooms and seminar/workshop space for hire at affordable prices.

What inspired you to start it?

My sister Alys was a freelance graphic designer working from home but I could see there was one problem “she wasn’t enjoying it”.

She was struggling to be productive and was always getting distracted and I started thinking there must be another way for her to work. So after researching the local market we created a coworking space in Dee Why.

What would encourage someone working from home to work from CO-WORKA?

CO-WORKA is for anyone who feels they need to take their business to the next level of growth and feel they can’t achieve this working from home.
