Compact Digital Camera Suggestions
Posted 03.04.2012 @ 4.52PM
Heading off to Japan next week. In the haste of getting ready to leave, I decided I'd like to have a small-ish point and shoot to take with me when I'm out and about.
Doesn't need to be pocket-sized, as I'll be keeping it in a messenger bag. Not interested in a DSLR, or anything that has that size/look to it.
Currently looking at the Canon Powershot G1X.
Suggestions welcome.

How to reconcile differences in aesthetic taste or quality of design?
Posted 29.02.2012 @ 10.34AM
::What about making ourselves happy? The picture painted here is that we don't really matter, our clients do and therefore we are slaves?.
Speaking personally, my happiness is implied. if I'm not enjoying what I'm doing (in general), I'd begin to question why I got into it in the first place. My point was that I don't believe people get into this field simply to service a client... surely it's more than that.
I don't see the fact that you can only count them on hand as a bad thing; you've identified a goal. Don't settle—you'll burn out.

How to reconcile differences in aesthetic taste or quality of design?

::who mentioned happiness.
Dave; whom I originally directed my question at.
::what's bleak about it? if you don't like to fulfil the terms of a project do fine arts, simple.
I'm not talking about the client/vendor relationship. I'm referring to a designer's values and their motives behind their work. For example, someone who will give a client what they need, as opposed to what they want—something that aspires to do something greater for our culture/industry than simply ticking boxes.

May just be quibbling over semantics here, but I'm not arguing the notion that design is created for an audience (it's hard not to agree with that). I simply disagree that design is about making someone "happy", as opposed to delivering something that works. As an occupation, sure, keeping clients, paying the bills etc. But as an ideology? Pretty bleak.
