Good seo can be as simple as meeting people face to face and promoting your link, and then taking the time and effort to follow up that interaction with social media follows and actually engaging with the person.
As for generalised seo advice, there are a plethora of gurus out there who are only to happy to send you a weekly email with some thought provoking hints and tips.
Most advice I read says to dedicate a half day or so once a month to read the blog posts and then a day or so to implement it.
But being mindful of current seo best practice when creating and sharing your content is all important. Oh, and by the way did I mention that the best starting place is original content, and then the next thing is to share it widely - so people actually get a chance to bump into it.

I agree with Dave, it was a very time consuming process meeting virtual assistants and then trying to get anything remotely like what I had in mind was another story.
As for wordpress support, have you tried looking at websites you like and clicking on the link in the footer to get to who actually does the work? Can be a good starting point.
