Design things to do in Stockholm

Posted 27.02.2012 @ 1.34PM

@Letsmakeart - yep there were heaps of galleries, large and small. Fotografiska was worthwhile with some revolving photographic exhibitions (and great cafe!). The Haiti photographs were particularly moving.

My favourite little gallery was http://www.galleri67.com in Gamla Stan, we brought home a nice giclee.

Not really design-specific but I also loved the Historiska Museet and Vasa Museet (both in central Stockholm), and the Sami Museet further north (in Jokkmokk).

Try the kannebulle and semla buns.

@Luke - Ostermalms Saluhall was amazing! So many cheeses!

Logo designs for pizza place

Posted 07.09.2011 @ 5.18PM (Edited 07.09.2011 @ 5.22PM)

**@aidous**- *slaps forehead* dyslexia much? my bad @letsmakeart ^_^"

phew - quite a bit to reply to, thanks again for all the feedback :)

so here we go!

**zack486**
::i think there is definitely some potential in combining 2 and 3. or the background of 3 could be a pizza rather than the flames as the words look fast enough. it does give the impression that it is delivered fast as opposed to sold at an event though.

Yup, totally agree. Originally when i planned out the design i had in my head the whole "its on wheels" but from feedback and analysing the design more it does represent more of a "get DELIVERED" faster rather than SERVED faster (takes only 3 minutes to cook :D). I've also had comments reminding them of hotwheels / fast & furious / need for speed.

**dave**
::I agree on the typeface comment, none of them are speaking to me.
And at the moment I'm getting "get around" is either going around a circle, or moving really fast. The latter is okay for a pizza delivery place, but not sure if it conveys what you're intending.
Just my limited input into logos, a specialist area I'm no specialist in. ;)

Limited input is better than no input :) It seems theres a general consensus on the type choice which i'll really sit down and nut out on paper / research for the next iterations. After meeting with the client, he likes both 'fast moving' and 'circulating' ideas and looking to incorporate more of a feel that the Van is mobile and meant to be convenient rather than just 'fast food'.

**Looney**
::first one comes across to me as a football, maybe a delivery man or van instead with 'pizza' being so prominent. second one has potential, the whole 'G' representing motion and pizza, gonna take some work though, be a hard one to work instantly, maybe a spiral shape more good luck, good simple logos take much more work than most think

Football? damn that didn't even occur to me the first time *cannot unsee* Definitely slimming down elements on the logo, the feedback so far has been great and really valueable in the process!

**j0nni**
::This might not be very helpful But the G shaped logo looks like the logo of a boutique pizza shop

Almost spot on with what the client thought, really liked the letterform, but wasn't the impact or vision he thought would appeal to the target market.

**JubbJubb**
::don't feel that any of these communicate what the type of business is, but keep at it. Maybe don't get caught up on the "wheels" part, as it makes it look like every other company out there, it's saying "they deliver". Maybe focus on the "catering for events" part instead. This could help communicate the message. I am not sold on the colour. I don't think it reminds me of food... Also, its the annoying little things i find (sorry to bring up), but if you are going to show some executions of a logo on some vehicles, it is important to get the perspective right...

Solid advice, totally understand where you're coming from with the "deliver" methodology. Also in regards to colours, the client liked the yellow+orange tone but not so much the marone colour. Any advice on possible colour schemes?

**Dittmar**
::If this is the first time you're sitting down with the client I would suggest showing him none of these until you talk to him and have a bit of a debrief. Communication is verbal as much as visual!*
Usually i don't do concepts until after a proper sit down either, but it was a request by the client to show different examples of styles that could possibly work and then be consulted on where we thought we should go with the brand and what he thought would work as well to find that middle ground. The meeting was productive and now we both have a much clearer view of the project.

**progress thus far**

After meeting with the client, we've been able to nut down who and what he's targetting. The entire branding needs to be bold and very dominant. He's removed the idea of 'fast delivery' in favour of 'convenient and fast production'. The logo's base premise is to be displayed on the van which we've now decided will be a full digital wrap. Colour choices are still not set in stone, but he is still leaning towards the warmer spectures, reds, oranges and yellows. We're also going to be looking at alterations of the pizza+flame concept and building on that. I'm thinking less flames, more pizza and more emphasis on the 'mobile' theme. Thanks again for the feedback guys :)

Creative People Are Full Of Themselves

Posted 24.07.2011 @ 8.43AM

@letsmakeart - I would recommend reading Edward De Bono who has an extensive body of work on the field of creative thinking. Effectively he states that creativity is a measurable skill and is far too often referred to as a descriptor of an individual propensity towards being engaged in the arts.

http://www.edwarddebono.com/

and a video on creative thinking:

"Creativity" depending on the way the word is used is actively measurable. In fact without being able to measure student progress in the ability to develop unique responses to variable problems, teachers would be hard pressed to develop teaching programs that extend the creative ability of students across a range of learning areas.
Teachers have to measure the ability of students to be able to problem solve in maths; hypothesise in science; experiment with language when writing and then interpret and extend basic knowledge to develop new ideas about the world.
Creativity means more than coming up with new ideas for ad campaigns or creating a pretty picture.

Here are a few examples of assessing creativity:

the client that doesn't know what they want

Posted 09.05.2012 @ 6.20PM

It sounds like the problem is more with your ability to handle clients. You'll come across a LOT of people like this in your career and part of your success will come from being able to successfully deal with them or cut them off before they take up your time.

Printdesign Portfolio - digital vs printed

Posted 07.05.2012 @ 10.45PM

Showing actual printed pieces and being able to talk about the finishes etc. shows some ability to take a project properly through print. Some designers fall down when it comes to using papers and finishes appropriately and this is not something that can be demonstrated digitally.

That said I am leaning more towards digital these days due to the convenience, but I always bring printed copies of key projects.

Cutting edge are pretty well known in Brisbane, that's quite a first job you've gotten! Well done.

Freelancer just moved to Brisbane from the UK

Posted 28.03.2012 @ 1.04AM

Hey Matt,

I am also a Matt from Brisbane. If you're into football (being English and all, it's a stereotype) I am the creative manager for our local football team the Brisbane Roar who are just about to play a home leg of a home and away to decide who gets through to the grand final.

Give me a buzz if you need to know anything about Brisbane or need some good printer hookups. Fishmonster is our local screen printing guru and all round good guy.
