Hi, I’m Luke Farrugia, a Melbourne-based UX/UI designer. I specialise in creating user experiences, whilst crafting usable and sleek user interfaces.
Digital systems such as websites and web applications are becoming progressively more complex as technologies advance. As a UX/UI designer, I need to adapt to these advancements, always ensuring that my skills and knowledge are on point. I study and evaluate how users feel about a system, focusing specifically on ease of use, user perception and efficiency.
In order to deliver a successful project, both the user experience (UX) and the user interface (UI) need to be embraced as a whole. Whilst information gathering and analysis is a key component, having the ability to create usable and stylish UI maximises the outcome.
Throughout my process I take full advantage of both UX and UI principals. This allows me to look at user problems in an alternative way, broaden my mind and deliver comprehensive user-focused systems.
Throughout my career I have worked with a number of small to medium-sized agencies as a UX/UI designer, whilst also working as a freelancer. I have had the opportunity to work on both exciting and challenging projects, that have ranged from promotional to ecommerce websites, web applications and also complex digital systems.
Whilst working with these agencies I have had the privilege of designing with some extremely talented creatives across multiple disciplines. This has allowed me to gain valuable insights into design, marketing, project management and development.
In my professional life, collaboration is a key component in my career development and is crucial in delivering a successful project.
mLight is a custom lighting manufacturer, based in Melbourne. mLight specialise in designing and crafting high-quality linear LED lighting for commercial use.
Whilst working at Klyp I led the UX/UI process for the new mLight website. During the discovery phase, I captured useful information via research, analysis and workshops. This allowed me to develop strong concepts and ensure that the project pushed the brief and was within budget. I collaborated daily with the project team to create user groups, brainstorm ideas and scope out functionality.
Throughout the UX process I developed:
- Competitor and client analysis
- User journeys / Touchpoints
- Content architecture
Our project team workshops aided us in determining that the overall goal was to encourage architects and builders to choose mLight for their custom lighting solutions. With this knowledge in mind, I set out to deliver an outcome which provided all of the information one would need when selecting a custom lighting provider. I created an interface that boasts mLight’s beautiful photography in a sleek layout, showcasing both their innovative projects and quality products. The website also has the ability to dynamically display information based content, such as resource downloads, events and social streams.
Through in-depth collaboration, we were able to push the brief and deliver an engaging user-focused solution which ticked all of mLight’s boxes.
