Straight forward black and white experts and font foundry TypeMates is a joint venture between Jakob Runge and Nils Thomsen. The collaborating black and white experts are developing retail and custom typefaces plus lettering for various clients.
Our typefaces are carefully designed to fulfill every serious typographical need without missing any standards.
Jakob Runge is specialized in developing typefaces and custom letterings for corporate and editorial design. After studying communication design at university of applied sciences in Würzburg and at Muthesius Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel, his thesis was published as successful textface FF Franziska with FontFont in 2014. Currently he works in Munich as an independent type and brand designer and typographic consultant. Apart from his work for design agencies, he teaches typography and type design at university of applied sciences in Münster since 2011.
Nils Thomsen’s fascination for type started during his childhood – with grafitti. This led him to the Muthesius Art School Kiel and help to finish his Master Degree at KABK in The Hague. In 2010 Nils moved to Hamburg and started to work for ‘ErlerSkibbeToensmann’. There he participated in the redesign of the German daily Süddeutsche Zeitung. His part were the text- and matching headline face. Since 2013 Nils works on his own type projects and some corporate font projects like a custom version of his Jabana for the 'Lufthansa Magazin' by Gruner+Jahr.
Pensum Display is the triangular and spiky packmate of text monster Pensum Pro. Designed to be used for anything big and for nothing that isn’t big, Pensum Display is a sharp, high contrast design ready to take on display and headline uses. Distilled from the text-focussed Pensum Pro, Pensum Display embraces extremes. Triangular serifs, spikier detailing, and tighter spacing, Pensum Display brings dynamism to short text in posters, headers, titles, or anywhere where its deep ink traps and high contrast can work their magic.
From the extremely thin styles, stylish and fashionable, to the strong black with its striking tension between thick and thin, Pensum Display’s nine weights offer a broad spectrum of expression. When you need emphasis, the matching italics, curvy and deeply ink-trapped, can set heads spinning.
With more than 800 glyphs and lots of OpenType features, Pensum Display can fulfil your every display need. For lovers of fine typography, the small caps are designed wider than the caps and punctuation for case and small-cap sensitive variations are available. Pensum Display is Adobe Latin 3 encoded , giving a wide range of flexibility in Latin language support.
Like all TypeMates fonts, Pensum Display is available for print+web, embedding and server licensing. Plus, it is free to test all styles on your desktop.
