Hi, I’m Luke Farrugia, a Melbourne-based UX/UI designer. I specialise in creating user experiences, whilst crafting usable and sleek user interfaces.
Digital systems such as websites and web applications are becoming progressively more complex as technologies advance. As a UX/UI designer, I need to adapt to these advancements, always ensuring that my skills and knowledge are on point. I study and evaluate how users feel about a system, focusing specifically on ease of use, user perception and efficiency.
In order to deliver a successful project, both the user experience (UX) and the user interface (UI) need to be embraced as a whole. Whilst information gathering and analysis is a key component, having the ability to create usable and stylish UI maximises the outcome.
Throughout my process I take full advantage of both UX and UI principals. This allows me to look at user problems in an alternative way, broaden my mind and deliver comprehensive user-focused systems.
Throughout my career I have worked with a number of small to medium-sized agencies as a UX/UI designer, whilst also working as a freelancer. I have had the opportunity to work on both exciting and challenging projects, that have ranged from promotional to ecommerce websites, web applications and also complex digital systems.
Whilst working with these agencies I have had the privilege of designing with some extremely talented creatives across multiple disciplines. This has allowed me to gain valuable insights into design, marketing, project management and development.
In my professional life, collaboration is a key component in my career development and is crucial in delivering a successful project.
While playing with shape combinations in Illustrator I noticed that the shapes started to form into abstract animals. From here I went to my sketch pad and started sketching out ideas, I developed concepts for various animals such as a Lion, Monkey, Rhino, Elephant, a Spider and a Wale.
As I developed these illustrations I decided to turn the Safari Animals into poster set and add a little "Safari Trivia" section to include some interesting fast facts.
These facts include:
- The roar of a lion can be heard from 8 kilometers away.
- Monkeys peel their bananas and do not eat the skins.
- Rhinos can grow to over 6 feet tall and more than 11 feet in length.
- Elephants purr like cats do, as a means of communication.
