The images get resized to fit a width so they might have been the wrong size and as a result got resized.
They also get compressed as a result of the resave. I am currently working on a brand new Directory layout which will be much better. This will also solve this issue.
But it could be your eyes, get them checked

Blurry pics in directory?

Is it just my old eyes or are some of the images in the directory blurry?
