When you mouse in/out the rectangle panels below the blue map, the background image zooms in and out. However on the client's Chrome browser it does not, and I can't work out why.
Any idea anyone?
The reason why this is not working is that background-size is not animatable (or at least shouldn't be) when using a keyword such as cover, contain or auto.

Great, that worked! Just had to add in "100%" where I had it defaulting to "auto" by only setting the first measure.
