I used to wonder at some of the grumbles about clients I'd read here and elsewhere, thinking designers are being a little harsh on clients who have no idea of the industry and so forth... but I have just finished dealing with quite simply the worst client I've ever dealt with, which I guess after 15 years and no previous major complaints I was overdue.
The final event that's tipped me over the edge enough to write this rant...
I got an email informing me the site was now live (I didn't send it live) but there was a problem with images appearing on some of the pages. Getting over my bewilderment of who sent it live being in a sub-folder of an already live server, I checked out the pages. The image paths were correct but no images. So I FTP'd in... seems rather than leaving the site files in the sub-folder, and simply changing settings and a path or two, moving index.php to root as I like to do (keep the root level nice and clean) they'd just moved all the files into the root, while obviously not going through and changing any paths that might effect. Haven't found out but guessing she got the host to do this, a host who is obviously not as adept at migrating Wordpress sites as they like to believe.
So I've said to her:
1) Revert back to how it was, I'll send live as part of job.
2) Pay me for an hour of my time and I will fix the problem.
3) Get whomever sent the site live to fix.
Idiot. And as I said, this is the final nail of about a dozen stupid things I've dealt with on this project. Guess I was due.
I've never had a client sent a site live. How often have you heard of a client being the one to send it live without telling the developer to do so?? And as I said, this was the final hilarious event of a list of events from this one client, so just the icing on the cake.
