Clearly some exceptions to the rule. Although the cube was a beautiful piece of engineering.

"Picasso had a saying - 'Good artists copy, great artists steal.' And we have always been shameless about stealing great ideas."

The worst fucking company in the world, and that includes Monsanto.

including monsanto? erm, doubt it
there are plenty of fucking awful companies over the world killing people, destroying lives, apple just produces fashion items, hardly a comparison to companies like shell and armament manufacturers
i would agree that apple have lived off being a competitor to ibm, the underdog status has carried them far, like ibm never produced shit sold as gold, like gate's was wonderful
whatever your take, jobs has more influence in the last few years on trends than probably most

It's hard to talk about Apple with out getting into a vitriolic debate. I have issues with a lot of what they do including their anti competitive behavior and lackluster environmental record. And while I don't have an iPad or a Mac, they do make some beautiful devices, that's all I was really getting at...and I really do love that quote.
@Looney...it's funny having watched them go from that sort of cultish underdog status to the market leader. It really put me off buying their gear more than anything else.

been buying apple computers since the very early days, hate my iphone and apple are now on the nose, just another corporation now
but what would it be like without them?
gate's world, arrrg!
technology would be drip fed, style would be many shades of grey
as for style, no comparison in the area they work in

I think say what you will they're the only company that really pushed forward the industrial design of computers and the look and feel of operating systems, and successfully made a simple computer my parents won't scream at.
There's an interesting article on Steve Jobs taking a course in typography in college and how it influenced the implementation of type on macs. (I think there's a much longer in depth version of it but this is the best one I could find at the moment)
http://www.planet-typography.com/news/typo/steve-jobs.html
I think a lot of people forget the reason designers started using macs was a practical one for the way they handled type.
So say what you will without apple we'd probably still be staring at poorly rendered type on beige boxes (ok maybe not but still)

"Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you dig deeper, it’s really how it works."
