On topic: A friend of mine had a $2k budget for a laptop. Of-course I instantly thought mac. She ended up with a HP Ultrabook which cost $2k ($2k for a PC laptop? Surely not?!). We took it home to unpack it and instantly she installed Chrome on it then boom. Everything was jaggy. Text, even images! It turns out Chrome is not compatible with Windows 8 on these retina style screens that PC Ultrabooks have.
What's worse, when we looked at the same photo on my macbook pro (which is 3 years old) and her screen she just died inside. The difference was light and day. The mac screen is so much brighter (white's look white not grey) and so much more contrast.
She cried for 2 nights and we ended up fighting to exchange it on a macbook pro. We got there, and now she's a total convert!
