I’m Oliver a graduated graphic designer from Mainz, Germany. After my graduation I was unsure about my future plans, but at some point I realized that I want to go to Australia for a year!
The idea to combine working in my field and traveling in Australia afterwards made me happy.
I will be in Melbourne from the 5th of April and hopefully I will find a job in my field (preferably branding).
I sent my job profile to creative-recruiters and get-artisan and sent some speculative applications to several agencies in Melbourne. However there is no job offer in sight.
I interned at 4 different places and I’m freelancing since 7 years. For this reason I wasn’t pessimistic that there won’t be any agency that would like to hire an ambitious designer for 6 months?
How do you guys see my chances to find a job in my field?
Can you give me some advice how to find a job in Melbourne with a working-holiday-visa?
I am also here in a similar situation - I have over 9 years experience in design (graphic and retail display design) in the UK and have been trying to freelance here and was wondering if the fact that we are on working holiday visa affects an Australian company's interest in us.
I was hoping to freelance and also use this opportunity to try and gain some design experience in other design/client sectors (branding projects and exhibition design).
Would be good to know if the working holiday visa presents a problem.
Also I would like to hear from other international designers that have found positions here and their experiences of securing work.
