Brilliant interview with Harlan Ellison
Love his attitude!!
That is pretty hilarious. I can't imagine threatening to burn down someones office.
On a similar train of thought..
How do people feel about the Semipermanent books? The whole event is pretty massive these days, but I was surprised to discover the contributors don't even get a discount, let alone a free copy.
Do you reckon the whole 'exposure' excuse cuts it with these books?
Wow that's pretty harsh if you don't get a copy of the book. Even moreso considering most of the people who go to semi permanent are likely to be "aspiring artists/designers" and hence wouldn't have a dime to pay you for freelance illustration...
I think at the very least Semi Permanent should be rewarding contributors with a book. Beyond that if there is a financial means to compensate them further then they should.
Not paying up and coming designers sets a very bad precedent. Especially considering that some their greatest work is the least commercial/financially rewarding.
Another great video about getting paid:
Yeah love that one - it cropped up here not too long ago. Much better because it's a proper talk, rather than some guy ranting in an interview.
