Laptop to TV connection help

Posted 11.08.2011 @ 3.40AM

Sorry, this may be simple but I'm a complete novice on connecting different devices...

If connecting a laptop to a TV that only has an RCA input (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audio_and_video_interfaces_and_connectors#RCA_Jack) is the best option using the HDMI port on the laptop? So finding myself an HDMI to RCA cable?

And then does the TV simply display whatever is on the laptop screen?

Or is there a port/output on the laptop better suited?

(and stuck with an old TV with just the RCA input as it's what comes with my apartment in Buenos Aires...)

Probably best to ask this over at whirlpool. The geeks there would know the right answer.

HDMI is a digital signal so in order to convert you need a converter- such as a receiver- can't do it in a single cable.
Newer laptops only have HDMI out.

This is what you'd be looking for: http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthread.php?t=705707

Simple answer is: no cheap way to do this.
