I find FB useful being overseas, the only reason... but even with that, the more I read the dumber I'm starting to feel personally, much less those who weren't that intelligent in the first place. I'm just reading so many stupid comments from people who I obviously didn't know as well as I thought.
(and not so much meaning "intelligent" as related just to IQ, but more to common sense and use of logic and reason...)
I never got into facebook. Never liked it... (no pun there)... and never saw what the fuss or addiction people had for it. Still don't. People still can't tell me what's good about it. Just thought it was a terrible design... like Myspace of old. Horrible thing to use and navigate. The constant updates they've done over the years is proof of that.
Every interview I see of mark talking about facebook, he always sounds amazed... as if he's amazed it took off and people willingly shared their private info. Talk about laughing all the way to the bank.
I hear you. I only created my FB account when I was in Kenya for 2 years, it was simply easier to keep in touch with friends. But now I supposedly have 330 "friends". WTF, I don't have (nor want) 330 friends! I guess I only have myself to blame of some if those "friends" are posting dumb shit.
If they were just posting stuff I'm not interested in that would be one thing, plenty of folk have different interests (though enough of the baby/food/cat photos already!). But it's the dumb/illogical/ignorant shit I can't stand, and if you try adding some logic to the thread watch the fireworks start!
Have always appreciated different views based on a sound & logical argument, but that seems more and more devoid on FB. Before FB these stupid comments happened between friends in a bar or similar, and ended there and then. Now they spread across the FB universe like a virus it seems, with other lemmings joining in if anyone raises a conflicting voice.
people have to be really nasty in order to get a reaction. i think it has become an art. anything that is well argued or based on fact can be glossed over too easily. i stopped reading ranty posts after i realised i'd entered the world of the reason why pauline hanson got elected - shite!
i still use it to keep in touch with friends interstate or overseas but i'm finding that more and more my posts are hijacked by bored attention seeking trolly friends. it's a very weird phenomena.
"Before FB these stupid comments happened between friends in a bar or similar, and ended there and then. Now they spread across the FB universe like a virus it seems"
And it's hard to remove it from the net.
That's why I don't bother with FB or similar sites. Private info should be kept that way not shared with the world at large. People can argue you can set privacy settings, but data can be accessed, and on the net, I would not want any of my private data out there for criminals and the like to gather.
Call me old fashioned, but I like to think of it as just being sensible.
