The only news I was on it was one report as I don't tend to watch the news.
They were kind of say that some people thought it could have been handled better and something about why marksmen didn't take him out while he was stood at the window.
That's all really.
They tend to pick this stuff apart and start looking for someone/something to hand blame on.
The info I have read from a range of sources about why a shot wasn't taken earlier included what @PSCYSM mentioned above about the backpack, and also that they weren't sure until later in the day if it was only one person, and once that was confirmed they didn't have a clear shot after that time.
I do think the sleeping gas thing is more Hollywood than reality... ;)
