All them default styles that constitute the "framework"... I want lean & mean. ;o)
I'm imagining something like:
- the basic but essential WP template files
- enough CSS to create a responsive grid structure & dropdown menu
- css/js to change the menu from desktop style to mobile style (see Foundation framework for what I mean).
- as you mention, some basic functions in functions.php to set up some basic essentials.
I've been playing around with Foundation, and it's just got so many pre-configured styles that 95% of projects will simply never user. Bootstrap's similar.
hey @dave, i'm currently working on a web app that allows you to create and generate a base theme; it might be something you're interested in.
basically it will have a bunch of options (many which you and @kipp_brady have mentioned above) that you check to include in your theme. when you're done you just simply download it and drop it on your server.
it might be something we could work on together - i have it setup on github at the moment if you're familiar with that. (i'm developing it in very basic php)
