Gemma O'Brien Solo Show 'Better Left Unsaid'

Exhibits, Typography

Typography and illustration 'it' girl and Instagram sensation Gemma O'Brien (Mrs Eaves) is having her first ever solo show 'Better Left Unsaid' at the Fremantle Arts Centre opening this Friday.

Exploring the performative nature of the written word, O'Brien will write directly onto the surfaces of the gallery walls to explore how the physicality of lettering itself can transform the meaning and experience of the words.

As the handwritten word becomes increasingly sparse in the digital age, the craft of lettering is deviating away from the traditional context of graphic design and into an art form in itself. O’Brien’s installation will immerse the viewer in the beauty of this skillful, intricate artform.

Gemma O'Brien will discuss her work at Placing Print: FAC Print Award Forum Saturday 21 September at 2pm.

Opening Friday 20 September, 6.30pm

21 September 2013 - 17 November 2013
