By popular demand, this October & November, Better Letters is bringing its renowned sign painter Mike Meyer back to Work-Shop Sydney & Melbourne, with an additional workshop being held at Work-Shop Brisbane and a Film Screening in Melbourne.
Meyer is best known for his appearance in the feature film, Sign Painters He has travelled the world and shared his skills for many years, but formalised this through his workshops in 2013. He has taken these to dozens of cities, across three continents, as well as hosting them at his own sign shop in Mazeppa, Minnesota.
His Hand Lettering Workshop introduces the basics of layout and brush technique, while his Lettering Effects Workshop takes things to the next level with shadows, bevels, convex/concave lettering and more. Participants will learn a variety of sign painting skills from one of the world’s best-known and respected practitioners. (And have a lot of fun along the way!) Mike will be teaching full-day workshops at Work-Shop Sydney (November), Melbourne (November) and Brisbane (November)
Melbournians are also in for a treat as Better Letter’s presents ‘Signs on Screen: A Cinematic Triple Bill’ at Work-Shop Melbourne. This triple bill will take you across three continents in search of the stories behind painted signs and the people that paint them. The featured films include: ‘Man with a Brush’ (2015) a biopic about the globe-trotting sign painter Mike Meyer; ‘21st Century Victorian’ (2013) a profile of showman and fairground signwriter Joby Carter; and ‘Horn Please’ (2013) an insight into the colourful world of truck decoration and lettering in India. Mike Meyer will be in attendance to introduce the films, and to demonstrate his work through some ‘live lettering’.
