SOYA 2010

posted in Art, Design, Digital, Fashion, Illustration, Photography, Print, Publications, by Damien Aistrope on 22nd June 2010 SOYA 2010

The Qantas Spirit Of Youth Awards (SOYA) is the leading grants program for emerging creative talent. SOYA provides practical support in the form of $10,000 in flights and cash, but the real incentive is the opportunity to build a professional mentoring relationship with creative leaders like Marc Newson, Zimmermann, Deanne Cheuk, Jan Chapman and Liz Ann Macgregor, helping young innovators expand their horizons, build up their business base, and learn the ropes from leading industry icons and some of the greatest creative minds in the world.

Last year SOYA attracted over 10,000 entries submitted by over 1600 young artists, designers, filmmakers, photographers and musicians.

Entries open today through http://www.soya.com.au - get your submission in by August 9 for your chance to be recognized as one of the bright sparks of creativity in Australia for 2010.

Mark Gowing

posted in Design, Digital, Motion, Print, by Damien Aistrope on 15th June 2010 Mark Gowing

I make no secret I have a few favorite Australian designers. I probably even have a top 5... but that is probably taking things too far. If there were such a thing, Mark Gowing is in my top 5 without a doubt. I know, fan boy right...

The first time I experienced Marks work first hand was for the suburban theatre company (in the suburb I grew up in, Belrose represent!) Glen Street Theatre. Since then I am constantly blown away by Marks work for the likes of Hopscotch Films, 2SER, The Weather Channel and more recently his hand in motion works, EyeSaw and numerious cultural posters.

The above image is from Mark's exhibition at the Warsaw International Poster Biennale. His website also had a massive update over the weekend, much more incredible work to explore: http://www.markgowing.com

Xtra Shiny

posted in Design, Digital, Illustration, Print, Studio, by Damien Aistrope on 11th June 2010 Xtra Shiny

With a name and logo as cute as Xtra Shiny, I expected just as much from their portfolio. I wasn't let down. This Adelaide based team produces solid and diverse work, all showcased in a slick website. I adore the illustrations used on the above GHD campaign: http://www.xtrashiny.com.au

Semi-Permanent 2010 rolls into Brisbane this Friday with an impressive roster of industry speakers which are sure to impress.

INfront will be showing support by sending along Joel Goodman to be our man on the ground for the day. Joel will be reporting back with live tweets, photos and wraps on each speaker to keep you actively informed.

Similar to the RAFW 2010 coverage we have loaded the events system with speaker interviews, bios and galleries. During the week we will continue to add more interviews and gallery images to each speaker.

Get over to our pre-coverage and soak up some interview goodness from the likes of Vince Frost, Jasper Goodall, Alexia Sinclair and Stephen Dupont before the main event.

This direct address to the very core of the local commercial creative industry is sure to strike a chord within the community.
