State Of Design

posted in Art, Design, Education, Exhibits, Events, by Alicia Hannah Naomi on 06th July 2010 State Of Design

State of Design Festival is the public face of the Victorian Government Design Victoria Strategy.

State of Design Festival increases the awareness of the value of design and showcases how design generates innovation, promotes sustainability and adds value to business and society. Festival programs demonstrate and broadly communicate how the Victorian and Australian design profession can improve living conditions, create sustainable development opportunities, and generate new and innovative products and services; in turn, providing economic benefit for the state of Victoria.

By communicating to Victorian, Australian and international audiences, the Festival promotes a deeper understanding of design capability and value.

The 2010 State of Design Festival will take place from 14 – 25 July throughout metropolitan Melbourne, and regional centres around Victoria.

More than 130,000 people are expected to experience one or more of the 75 events across the Festival’s four main programs; Design Capital (Business Seminar Series), Design For Everyone (Public Cultural Program), Design:Made:Trade (Industry Program) and Premier’s Design Awards (Awards Program).

Scratching The Surface

posted in Art, Exhibits, Events, Print, by Brad Eastman on 15th June 2010 Scratching The Surface

As part of Creative Sydney in June 2010, five of Sydney's leading street artists - Beastman, Max Berry, Numskull, Phibs and Roach - painted a 2.5m x 10m collaborative mural which was installed in Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art. Presented by [weAREtheIMAGEmakers], The Opening Hours and Ironlak, the intention of the event was to draw attention to  and make a bold statement about the high quality but temporary nature of public or 'street' art in Sydney, due to Sydney council's tough stance on the  subject. This was achieved through buffing over the amazing 10m mural in front of a crowd who turned up expecting the artists to be painting the mural live.

Check out this awesome video of the artists painting on location at Westsyde Connection, and the event that followed at the MCA here:
